On this Ghent day trip from Brussels, you'll see this stunning UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the best-preserved European medieval cities, and its beautiful historic centre accompanied by a knowledgeable English-speaking guide. Stop at the famous Atonium included!
Tour Details
Begin the full-day tour to Ghent by boarding a bus at Brussels Central Station at the scheduled time. Ghent is Bruges’ biggest rival for the most fascinating destination in Belgium.
Before leaving Brussels behind, we'll make a stop at the emblematic Atonium. We'll admire the monument, standing at more than 100 meters (328 ft) high and the spheres of about 18 meters (59 ft) in diameter representing the nine provinces of Belgium before continuing on our way.
Upon arrival, follow your guide through the city center and marvel at the enormous Castle of Gerald the Devil (Geeraard de Duivelsteen), admire the world-famous painting “The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb” by the Van Eyck brothers housed in the Gothic-style St Bavo’s Cathedral and check out the 91-meter belfry (Belfort) and the Town Hall.
Afterwards, head to the oldest-standing buildings in Ghent: Saint Nicholas’ Church, the sixteenth-century Masons’ Guild House, the small medieval Graslei port, the imposing Castle of the Counts of Flanders, the picturesque Patershol district and explore one of the city’s largest squares, the Friday Market Square.
Once you have a good idea of Ghent’s main landmarks, you will have approximately four hours to enjoy the city at your own pace. You can enjoy a delicious traditional Belgian lunch by any of the city’s waterways and purchase souvenirs like Belgian chocolates.
This trip will come to an end after 9.5 hours together, back in the centre of Brussels.
